Paws Day Pass - Lockhart, TX
The mission of PDP is to provide a supportive experience for both our canine residents and the women in prison who care for them. Our key goals are to prevent dogs from becoming institutionalized through personalized care and socialization outside the prison walls and help them find the right forever homes by learning their needs and behaviors.
We aim to positively impact our local community by showcasing the value of the dogs and the incarcerated women involved. This initiative emphasizes the importance of second chances for both parties, allowing many women to continue their involvement with our program post-incarceration.
We also raise awareness, highlighting the bond between participants and the dogs and showcasing our organization’s impactful work.

The Paws in Prison program and the Paws Day Pass hold deep personal significance to me because they represent the transformative power of second chances. By training dogs in prison, incarcerated individuals not only gain valuable skills and a sense of purpose, but they also develop empathy and responsibility—qualities that can help them reintegrate into society. The dogs, in turn, benefit from the care and attention they receive, and many go on to become service animals, providing independence and support to people in need.
The Paws Day Pass offers an opportunity for both the inmates and the public to experience the bond between humans and animals outside the confines of the prison walls, fostering a sense of connection and healing. These programs show how two lives—human and canine—can be transformed through shared care and understanding. Personally, I find these initiatives to be a model of compassion, showing that no one is beyond redemption and no animal is without value. The positive impact on both the participants and the community makes these programs not just meaningful but essential for creating a more compassionate society.

Through this unique initiative, I get to work closely with women inmates, helping them develop core values such as patience, responsibility, and compassion. At the same time, I also focus on training rescue dogs, providing them with a solid foundation in obedience and social skills to prepare them for adoption into loving, forever homes.
I am excited for Paws Day Pass because it will allow the dogs to get out into the public more and, in doing so, develop social skills that might be missing due to the confinement of the prison environment. I believe that this dual-purpose program not only transforms the lives of the dogs but also empowers the women, giving them valuable skills and a sense of purpose.

I am a professional dog trainer who volunteers with the Paws In Prison program, where the women transform their own lives by rescuing dogs from local kill shelters. Through this program, incarcerated women gain valuable skills and emotional growth while providing care and training for these dogs. The bond between the women and the dogs is truly life-changing for both. By offering a second chance to the dogs, the women also find a path to redemption and personal healing.
It's an inspiring program that offers growth, passion, and empowerment. I am proud to be a part of the team that helps to create better futures for both the women and the dogs we rescue. The Paws Day Pass will provide them with a temporary nurturing environment while they await their forever home. Allowing them to socialize, exercise, and receive extra love and care. Together, we are making a meaningful difference in our community.
